Example 1 - Remodel of a Former Ballroom.

What has become a media center occupies nearly half the foot print of a 1909 mansion whose exterior was restored by the Company in 2001(see Exterior Painting, Older Homes, Stucco example 2).  The design is a continuation of the building’s interior construction which is a tour de force of the finest varnished wood work of a long ago past.  Gary D. Torgerson Company was most privileged to perform this commission.  May this work and the home it occupies be admired and enjoyed in coming centuries

(1) Prior to work, west perspective
The large pipe was part of the heating system and could not removed.  This indeed presented a design challenge.
(2) Firing of walls and ceiling
The awkwardly located pipe is in the initial stage of being encased (disguised) into a bookcase archway.
(3) Heated window seat construction.

(4) The suspended shaded lights are salvaged antiques.  A pool table subsequently was placed beneath them.
(5) Archway bookcase
Clearly a suspended heating pipe could not remain.  Necessity at times turns to virtue.
(6) Finished window seat.
Opportunity for a pleasant inversion of “bench warming” while waiting ones turn at pool.

(7) Construction in progress, north perspective
Great emphasis was placed on sound isolation.  The ceiling is a laminate of sheetrock over sound suppressing board and is suspended on specialized hangers.  Mineral fiber sound attenuation bats further suppress sound transfer.
(8) Completion, north perspective
Note the ceiling mounted DVD projector.  Also, at room’s right corner is a wet bar.
(9) Lighting was designed for maximum flexibility.  The various task and mood lighting groups are independently switched and adjustable for brightness.

End wall details
The movie screen disappears into the ceiling.  The compact disc cabinet to its left is a disguised door accessing electronics.
(12) Cabinet detail.
The finish consists of five coats of various stains, four coats of sanding sealer, and four coats of high gloss polyurethane varnish.
