Tomato “Persimmon”: Description of the Variety and Recommendations for Growing

A variety of such a popular culture as tomato, with a very sonorous name “ Persimmon ”, was recently bred by domestic breeders. Large-fruited tomato got its name due to the very unusual shape and color of ripe fruits.

Characterization and Description of the Variety

The description of the variety and the characteristic of this vegetable crop involves the formation of a determinant bush, the height of which is no more than 0.75–0.85 m. The variety belongs to the mid-season category. Bushes with strong leafy, powerful and fairly large stems. Foliage is relatively large, light green in color.

Fruits have an aligned, flat-rounded shape. A distinctive varietal feature of a tomato called Persimmon is the presence of a green spot on the surface. Completely ripened fruits have a pronounced orange surface. The pulp is very juicy, fleshy, tender, with a high content of beta-carotene. The palatability is very good, the pulp of ripe fruit is sweetish, with a very light, barely perceptible sourness.

The variety is not characterized by increased resistance to damage by the most dangerous diseases and common plant parasites, therefore it is necessary to create optimal growing conditions, including the preventive treatment of the aerial parts with folk remedies or chemical preparations.

Growing Site Requirements

Strong and hardened seedlings are planted in the middle-end of May when the threat of late spring frosts passes. This variety is perfect for growing in open ground, but cultivation can also be carried out on greenhouse ridges. The landing should be allocated areas with good lighting, without stagnation of water and cold air masses. It should be noted that ridges for tomatoes need to be prepared in advance:

  • in the autumn, a deep digging of the soil is carried out with thorough removal of all weed vegetation;
  • the soil should have good air permeability and water throughput, which has a beneficial effect on the growth and development of garden crops and allows you to get high productivity;
  • heavy or clay soils in the process of digging should be improved by necessarily adding coarse sand, humus or compost, as well as basic complex mineral fertilizers;
  • It is recommended to place tomato ridges after growing carrots, zucchini, cucumbers, cauliflower, beans or greens.

The standard density of planting tomato seedlings should not exceed three plants per square meter. Subject to planting technology and growing rules, fruiting peaks occur in the middle of summer, and fruiting itself lasts for three months.
